Des probl\u00e8mes tels que des fissures, des crevasses ou d\u2019autres d\u00e9fauts absorbent moins de radiation que le mat\u00e9riau principal. Par cons\u00e9quent, il apparaitra sur la radiographie des zones d\u2019ombres plus sombres qui sont des indications de la pr\u00e9sence de ces d\u00e9fauts. De la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on qu\u2019une fracture sur un os est d\u00e9tect\u00e9e par le radiologue, cette technologie permet le diagnostic de d\u00e9fauts dans des pi\u00e8ces structurales complexes.<\/p>\n<p>La radiographie est utilis\u00e9e pour inspecter des boulons et \u00e9crous de quille. La radiation ne passe pas \u00e0 travers le ballast en plomb. Cependant, elle passe \u00e0 travers de larges \u00e9paisseurs de bois et de fibre de verre. Il est donc possible de d\u00e9tecter le niveau de corrosion de ces attaches ainsi que d\u2019\u00e9ventuelles fissures, si elles sont pr\u00e9sentes.<\/p>\n<p>Cependant, la propagation de rayon X, Cobalt 64, et Iridium 192 pose des dangers pour la sant\u00e9 de ceux qui effectuent les tests.
